A Gatsby Styled Romance at the Art Factory

New York/Paterson- In late Summer of 2018, The Vintage Table Company, Along with a team of Talented Professionals partnered together to showcase our skills.  The resulting editorial shoot brought the Art Deco glamour of the Gatsby era to modern day wedding editorial.

The Grooms

But before we could show off our wedding know-how, we were lacking an essential part: the couple. Enter George Matthew and Matt Powell, a real-life couple based in Manhattan. George Matthew is a model and founding designer of 1931, a vintage accessories line, and Matt Powell is an editor and freelance food photographer. They met in the summer of 2017 over a glass of wine, and their penchant for vintage style quickly brought them together.  Heather Boswick, Photographer, was immediately drawn to their aesthetic, and was blessed to find the couple via Instagram. Their style became the inspiration for the shoot.

The Location

Shot on the grounds of The Art Factory in Paterson, New Jersey - a newly reclaimed, 400,00 square-foot venue space that was previously a textile manufacturing plant - we drew our vision from the surroundings. Filled with vintage furnishings, exposed Edison bulbs, weathered brick, wild garden spaces, and even antique trolley cars, the venue just opened in May 2018 in time for wedding season. Our team gathered two days after the couple's 1-year anniversary.

The Details

For the decorative elements, Linda's Florist of Short Hills, IC Lettering & Design, and The Vintage Table Company outfitted multiple rooms of the venue. Bring on the champagne tower of antique glasses!

The Desserts

Petal Dust Cakery supplied glittering macarons and a magnificent 6-tiered wedding cake (nearly as tall as our grooms), frosted in a masculine color scheme and gilded in icing reminiscent of Erté, with beads cascading down the sides.

The Coordination

All the little details necessary for a wedding were the work of Knot Forgotten Details wedding planner Patty.

Capturing it all on Video

As Schoenfilms captured the couple dancing to a vintage gramophone, Matt couldn't help but gleefully remark, "It really feels like we're getting married today! All we need is the officiant." Of course, the couple doesn't plan on that until the fall of 2020... when the roaring 20's are officially back.

Cheers to Prohibition!

At little piece of History .... 1920-1933 is known as the Prohibition period when there was a nationwide ban on the sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcoholic beverages.

Although the ban was enforced by the government, it didn't stop people from drinking! Instead they set up unlicensed bars, which they named Speakeasies. To enter a speakeasy, one would need to say a password to the doorman so that they would know whether or not they were really secret agents. These secret gin joints were most common in New York City and the cocktails were typically prepared in teapots and drunk from tea-cups so, in the event of the speakeasy being raided, everything appeared to be all good.
